In Montana, an earthquake of 5,8 points
An earthquake strong enough to wake sleeping residents more than 30 miles (48 km) from its epicenter shook the western part of Montana on Thursday morning.
According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), an earthquake measuring 5,8 points occurred just after midnight about 6 miles (9,7 km) southeast of Lincoln. No injuries reported.
Residents of Lincoln for a short time were left without electricity, and in Helen there was a gas leak, according to the National Weather Service in Great Falls in Twitter.
It is reported that the earthquake felt such distant cities like Bozeman, Idaho and Great Falls.
76-year-old Ray Anderson told The Associated Pressthat it was the strongest seismic activity he had ever experienced while living in Helen. The city is located about 34 miles (54 kilometers) from the epicenter of the earthquake.
According to the USGS, in Montana and parts of Wyoming and Idaho, there were more than 1925 earthquakes of magnitude more than 70 since 4,5. The largest earthquake in the history of the state was the 7,2 magnitude in 1959, near western Yellowstone.
