Los Angeles city buses will be free for students.

Mayor Eric Garsetti announced the start of a one-year pilot program that will cancel the fare on city buses for K-12 students and college students. Now DASH fare is 50 cents or 35 cents for TAP cardholders. The city’s transport authority estimates that nearly a quarter of DASH passengers use buses to get to school, college and back.

The mayor's official statement said the program "will help students get to class on time, save families money and increase school attendance."

However, to use the program, students must register, and this is not an easy process. The transport department of the city’s administration manages this pilot program through the city’s portal of reduced rates. To be eligible for free travel, students or students must create an account, obtain the signature of one of the parents, and confirm registration with a student ID or student ID card.

This means that, most likely, schools and community centers will inform the families about the program so that students complete the necessary registration actions.
