In California, a mountain lion dragged a dog off a leash while its owner was walking it
In California, a woman went for a walk with her dog, but at that time a mountain lion ran out from behind the bushes and attacked her pet. According to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW), the woman, holding onto a leash, tried to save the animal, but Deram was knocked to the ground, and the mountain lion ran away with her pet. The woman was injured in the fall. The edition told in more detail SFGate.
The incident took place near Laguna Lake Mobile Estates in San Luis Obispo. The residential area is adjacent to an open space that is "suitable habitat for mountain lions," the agency said.
CDFW spokesman Ken Paglia said the agency had set up a trap, and when a mountain lion falls into it, it will be moved to a remote area of San Luis Obispo County.

“We are trying to find a balance between giving the mountain lion the best chance of a life in the wild and minimizing the likelihood of a similar incident happening again,” Paglia said.
The mountain lion may be the same animal seen a couple of times in the area over the past two months.
“This is believed to be an adult mountain lion,” he wrote. “There may be two mountain lions in the area.” San Luis Obispo is a mountain lion habitat... and generally speaking, wherever there are deer, there are mountain lions... so the mere presence of mountain lions is not unusual.”
Mountain lions are generally shy animals and avoid humans. The population size in the state is unknown. A 1996 study estimated that between 4000 and 6000 mountain lions lived in the state. The agency started a new population count in 2014 and it has not yet been completed.

Conflicts with people are rare. Paglia said that while the data does not show an increase in mountain lion conflicts, there has likely been an increase in the way wildlife is captured and video captured. For example, using home security cameras and mobile phones.
If you encounter a mountain lion, the agency advises you not to run away or turn your back on the animal. Try to seem bigger: throw your hands behind your head and make as loud sounds as possible.
