In the Atlantic, the world's first road junction was built on the ocean floor
The underwater tunnel with a road junction will be decorated with sculptures and special lighting effects, writes Autonews.

In the Faroe Islands, the construction of the world's first road junction on the ocean floor has been completed. This facility is part of an 11-kilometer underwater tunnel that will open in a few weeks. It will connect the two largest islands of the archipelago.
The new tunnel is called Eysturoyartunnilin and is 189 meters below the Atlantic Ocean. Local artist Trondur Patursson worked on the design of the object.
A blue light was installed in the tunnel, as well as a number of sculptures.
The tunnel will connect the capital of the Faroe Islands - the city of Torshavn with two small settlements on the Estura island - Runavikom and Strandur. Thanks to this facility, the path of residents of these villages to the capital will be reduced from 55 to 17 kilometers. By car, this path can be covered in about 16 minutes.

According to the Tunnelling Journal, the construction of the tunnel cost approximately $ 162 million.
Travel through the facility will be paid.
This is not the only underwater tunnel in the Faroes. The first similar facility was opened back in 2002. Its length is 4,9 kilometers. In 2006, another tunnel appeared on the archipelago (length - 9,5 km), which was also designed by Trondur Patursson.
