Ukrainians who arrived in the US from Mexico will be allowed to stay in America for another year
Tens of thousands of Ukrainians fleeing the war who arrived in America before April 25, 2022 (before the start of the program Uniting for Ukraine) could lose their legal status in the US as early as this spring. The fact is that they were provided with a parole, which is valid for only 12 months, that is, no later than April 2023. The administration of US President Joe Biden has decided to extend protection for Ukrainians, they will be able to stay and legally work in the US for at least another year, reports CBS News.

prehistory
After Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022 and forced millions of people from their homes, thousands of Ukrainians flew to Mexico and from there crossed the land border to the US. In a few weeks, American border guards let more than 20 Ukrainians into the country. They were granted parole (temporary protection from deportation and the right to work in the US) for 000 months.
At the end of April 2022, the Biden administration created an official program for displaced Ukrainians, Uniting for Ukraine. Thanks to her, Ukrainians who have American sponsors could fly to the United States directly and stay in the country for two years. As part of Uniting for Ukraine, more than 118 Ukrainians arrived in the United States.

Parole extension for Ukrainians
On March 13, the Biden administration announced its intention to extend by one year the humanitarian parole for Ukrainians who arrived in the United States from February 24 to April 25, 2022. In 4 weeks, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will review the cases of Ukrainians falling into this category. Those who have their password renewed will be able to download their updated permits (to stay and work in the US) online. There are no details yet or a site to verify the details of a particular person. Most likely, they will appear later.

“The unprovoked Russian invasion of Ukraine, and the unprecedented humanitarian crisis it has caused, continues. Therefore, in the opinion of DHS, there are still urgent humanitarian reasons for extending the parole of some Ukrainians and their families,” said Angelo Fernandez Hernandez, spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security. He added that the extension will not be automatic, each case will be reviewed separately.
Ukrainians living in the US since April 19, 2022 can also apply for temporary protected status (TPS) - a program that allows immigrants from countries affected by the crisis to obtain work permits and protection from deportation. However, like parole, TPS is temporary and does not entitle recipients to live permanently in the US. The decision to extend or terminate TPS for citizens of a particular country is made by the US government.

What to do for Ukrainians who want to stay in the US forever
Uniting for Ukraine, parole and TPS do not give the right to permanently live in America. Those who want to stay in the US permanently must apply for asylum or other immigration programs: family green cards or marriage green cards.
