US President Donald Trump has signed two laws in support of protesters in Hong Kong. The first - imposes sanctions against officials who are involved in the dispersal of protests. The second one prohibits the export of police equipment from the United States to Hong Kong so that American special means are not used against activists. Writes about it "Present Tense".

These laws require an annual assessment of the extent to which Hong Kong is independent from Beijing in compliance with the “one country, two systems” policy, and also decide whether the US authorities should extend preferential trade, economic, customs and investment regimes in relation to this territory.

China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) called the laws a serious violation of international law and "interference in the country's internal affairs." Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said at a briefing on November 28 that the US administration “openly supports criminals.” Chinese Foreign Ministry caused American Ambassador Terry Brandstad and told him that the signed decrees were “blatant hegemony” demonstrated by the United States.

“This is serious interference in Hong Kong's activities, which are China's internal affairs,” Geng Shuang said. – The United States ignores the facts and the true state of affairs. They have openly supported violent criminals who destroy infrastructure, set fires, disturb civilians, undermine the rule of law and disrupt public order.”

The Hong Kong authorities condemned Washington's decision: they said that the adoption of such acts “sends false signals to the protesters” and warned that the innovation could hit the business interests of the United States itself, given that 85 thousand American citizens and businessmen have settled in the metropolis and 1344 companies from the USA.

In Hong Kong, mass protests have continued in the summer, which local authorities and China consider riots. Initially, one of the reasons was a document that facilitates the extradition of Hong Kong residents to China if these people are persecuted in China. But in the end, the actions resulted in a mass movement demanding democratic reforms. Local elections were also held in Hong Kong, where anti-Chinese candidates won in many districts.

During the months of protests on the streets of the city, clashes between protesters and the police repeatedly occurred. applied force to disperse activists and even used firearms. More than two and a half thousand protesters and organizers were arrested: their release is one of the protesters ’current demands on the authorities.
