Dangerous medicines from Chinese suppliers: regulators warn against buying at Dollar Tree

Dollar Tree criticized for storing “potentially unsafe drugs” and cosmetics, writes USA Today.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) sent a letter to Greenbrier International Inc. We are better known as the Dollar Tree.

The FDA asks Dollar Tree to “provide a detailed plan to ensure that Americans do not receive, and the company does not supply counterfeit medicines in interstate trade,” as well as a supplier audit plan.

Dollar Tree was asked to make an appointment within 15 business days of receiving the letter.

“Americans expect and deserve drugs that are safe, effective, and meet our quality standards,” said Donald Ashley, director of Compliance at the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, in a press release.

“In this case, the Dollar Tree is primarily responsible for not selling potentially unsafe drugs and other products regulated by the FDA to Americans,” he added.

In a letter to the Dollar Tree CEO Gary Philbin of 6 on November FDA, it identifies Chinese manufacturers who were unable to test the products, and "rodent feces were found at the entire manufacturing facility."

According to the FDA, Dollar Tree received warning letters between 2016 and 2019.

Randy Geeler, Dollar Tree's vice president of investor relations, said the items referred to by the FDA were “relevant, not consumed, products.”

“We strive to ensure the safety of our customers and have implemented very reliable and rigorous testing programs to ensure the safety of our third-party products,” said Guiler, noting that the company is cooperating and plans to meet with the FDA in the near future.
