Taliban hold military parade with American equipment in Kabul
The Taliban held a military parade in Kabul with a demonstration of American technology, reports Voice of America.
After the collapse of the West-backed government in Kabul, large stocks of abandoned weapons and equipment passed to the Taliban.
The Taliban held a November 14 military parade in Kabul using captured American-made armored vehicles and Russian helicopters to demonstrate the ongoing transformation of their militias into a regular army.
For two decades, the Taliban have acted as fighters, but now they are using large stockpiles of weapons and equipment left behind after the collapse of a Western-backed government to re-equip their forces.
The parade was timed to coincide with the release of 250 soldiers who completed their training, Afghan Defense Ministry spokesman Enayatullah Khwarazmi said.

At the parade, dozens of American-made M117 armored personnel carriers were demonstrated, over which Mi-17 helicopters flew.
Many soldiers were holding American-made M4 assault rifles.
Most of the weapons and equipment the Taliban now use have been supplied by Washington to the US-backed government in Kabul in an attempt to create an Afghan national force capable of fighting the Taliban.
