The Federal Court of New York partially blocked the immigration decree of US President Donald Trump, who banned immigrants from 7 countries of the Middle East from entering the country.

Consideration of the legality of the decree was carried out on the basis of the claim of the American Civil Liberties Union, which sued the US government, reports NBC.

The blockage is partial - the court imposed a temporary ban on the deportation of migrants with valid American visas who have already arrived in the United States and are now at airports.

“Everyone who arrives in the country is now safe, and this is critically important. The courts worked the way they should work in this country, ”commented on the decision in the American Civil Liberties Union.

The exact number of migrants detained at airports is still unclear, but the court ordered the government to provide lists of all persons detained at US airports since the decree came into force.

In addition, a federal court in Boston, Massachusetts, also imposed a temporary ban on Trump’s decision to ban immigrants from 7 countries from entering the US, reports Boston Globe.

The restriction on entry into force was imposed on the period of 7 days, which allows those who were detained at airports to be allowed into the United States.

The court’s decision prohibits federal officials from detaining or expelling immigrants and refugees with valid US visas or green cards, as well as forcing them to undergo additional security checks based solely on Trump’s decree.

The court also ordered U.S. Customs and Border Protection to notify foreign airlines that it is safe to carry immigrants on U.S.-bound flights.

The reason for considering the legality of Trump's decision was the suit of the American Civil Liberties Union and the University of Massachusetts, two of whose professors were detained on January 28 at Logan Airport.

Iranian-born professors Mazdak Porabdol Tutkaboni and Argavan Loghalam are permanent legal residents of the United States who left the country for a scientific conference and on their return were subjected to an additional 3 hourly check solely on the basis of a Trump decree.

Meanwhile, the US Department of Homeland Security saidthat, despite the decisions of the courts, the presidential decree will be fully implemented throughout the country.

“The U.S. travel ban remains in effect, and the U.S. government reserves the right to revoke visas at any time when national security or public safety is necessary. "President Trump's executive order affects a small portion of international travelers and is the first step toward regaining control of U.S. borders and national security," the department said in a statement.
