The court acquitted the actor Kevin Spacey: all charges of sexual harassment dropped

Twelve jurors at Southwark Crown Court began deliberating around noon on 24 July after a three-week trial. Spacey, 64, pleaded not guilty to 12 charges of sexual harassment.

The jury dropped nine charges against Spacey. Additional charges were dropped before jurors could deliberate.

Prosecutors tried to accuse Spacey of "sexual harassment" during the trial, but the actor defended himself. Musician Elton John appeared as a defense witness, testifying remotely from Monaco that Spacey once attended a gala dinner at his home in Windsor.

Spacey appeared before a London court in July 2022. He pleaded not guilty after being formally charged by the London police.

In May 2022, the Crown Prosecution Service filed five charges against Spacey, accusing him of sexually harassing three men and forcing a man to engage in non-consensual penetrative sexual activity, prosecutors said. Seven more charges were added in November 2022.

The Oscar-winning actor for his roles in The Usual Suspects and American Beauty has faced allegations of sexual harassment in both the UK and the United States. In October, he was found not guilty in a civil sexual harassment lawsuit filed by fellow actor Anthony Rapp in New York.

Spacey told Good Morning America in May 2022 that he would "voluntarily" stand trial in London.

“I very much appreciate the statement from the Crown Prosecution Service in which they have been careful to remind the media and the public that I have the right to a fair trial and that I am innocent until proven guilty,” Spacey said at the time. “Whilst I am disappointed by their decision to proceed with the case, I will voluntarily appear in the UK as soon as possible to defend myself against these charges.” I am not guilty".

Some of the allegations in 2001 and 2013 involved Spacey being artistic director of the London theater company The Old Vic. The allegations were made public in 2017, two years after Spacey left office.

"These allegations came as a shock and a disturbing surprise to many of us," Matthew Worchus, who replaced Spacey as artistic director, said in a statement released at the time.
