Obama family chef drowns in Massachusetts
The personal chef of the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama, rode a paddleboard and drowned near the family's home on Martha's Vineyard, reports APNews.
Massachusetts State Police confirmed that the drowned man, whose body was removed from Edgartown Great Pond on July 24, was 45-year-old Tafari Campbell from Dumfries, Virginia.
Campbell worked for Obama and attended Martha's Vineyard. Obama was not at home at the time of the tragedy. In a statement, the President and his wife, Michelle Obama, called Campbell "the beloved part of our family."
“When we first met him, he was a talented sous chef at the White House—creative and passionate about food. He had the ability to bring people together, the couple said. “In the years that followed, we came to know him as a warm, funny, incredibly kind man who made all of our lives a little brighter.”

“That's why, when we were about to leave the White House, we asked Tafari to stay with us, and he generously agreed. Since then he has been a part of our lives. Our hearts are broken that he is gone,” the couple said.
The search for the missing began on July 23 after one of the witnesses, who also floated on the board, reported that he saw Campbell floundering on the surface of the water, sank and did not surface.

The search was suspended late on July 23, but on July 24, state police said that sonar from a boat found a body about 30 meters from the shore at a depth of about 2,4 meters. Police said Campbell was not wearing a life jacket.
Campbell is survived by his wife and 2 sons.
