The United States said, under what condition would make visas for Russians cheaper

It became known on the eve that the cost of a multiple-entry tourist and business American visa for Russians from 1 January 2019 will increase to $ 303. The US Consulate General in Russia said that this amount can be almost halved.

The United States will lower the collection on multiple tourist and business visas for Russians from $ 303 to $ 160, if the Russian Federation sets the same amount of collection for Americans, writes TASS.

This was announced on Friday by the head of the consular section of the US Consulate General in Yekaterinburg, Ognyana Ivanova-Sriram, commenting on the position of the United States Embassy on this issue.

On Thursday, the US Embassy in Moscow reported that from 1 January 2019, the cost of a multiple-entry tourist and business American visa B1 / B2 for Russians increase to $ 303 by imposing a surcharge, based on the principle of reciprocity (that is, determining the amount of the fee in the same amount as it is established). Russia charges the same fee from American citizens for a similar type of visa - a multiple-entry visa to the Russian Federation will cost an American $270.

“If the Russian government returns to the $160 consular fee for Russian visas for American citizens for three years, then we will do the same for Russian citizens,” said Ivanova-Sriram, whose speech was broadcast on the American Consulate General’s Facebook page.

According to her, Russia in 2016 unilaterally “raised the consular fee for tourist entry visas for American citizens.”

“We proposed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation to bring the amount of the consular fee for Russian visas in accordance with the principle of reciprocity, and we understand that they are considering this possibility,” added the head of the consular department.

Earlier, the US embassy noted that US law requires that the cost and duration of a US visa be based, to the extent practicable, on the principle of reciprocity.
