Russia accused the United States of using illegal bombs in Syria
The US Department of Defense denied a statement by the Russian military that US F-15 fighters used forbidden phosphorus bombs in Syria.
Military units in the area have no such ammunition, Pentagon spokesman Sean Robertson said, writes Meduza.
“By this time, we had not received any reports on the use of white phosphorus. None of the military units in the area is even equipped with white phosphorous ammunition, ”said Robertson.
Data on the number of dead and injured are specified. The ministry stressed that the use of this type of weapon is prohibited by the Geneva Convention. In 2017, the US-led coalition, in response to media accusations of using white phosphorus, said it was acting "in accordance with the laws of war."
The Russian Defense Ministry claimed that on September 8, two US Air Force fighters had dropped phosphorus incendiary ammunition on the city of Hadjin in the province of Deir ez-Zor. Because of the strikes in the area there have been strong fires, said the head of the Russian Center for reconciliation of the warring parties in Syria, Lieutenant-General Vladimir Savchenko. How many people died and suffered, it was not specified.
