Putin announced participation in the presidential election in Russia in 2018
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced his intention to run for a new term.
He said about his decision during a meeting with the workers of the GAZ plant in Nizhny Novgorod, reports with the BBC.
Putin, who repeatedly left the answer to the question about his nomination for a new term, announced his decision, answering the question of the senior foreman of the section Artem Baranov.
“Today at the volunteer forum you were asked whether you would nominate. You answered that if the people support, then yes. So, today in this room everyone, without exception, supports you. Vladimir Vladimirovich, give us a gift - announce your decision. After all, we are for you, GAZ is for you!” Baranov said.
“GAS for you, GAZ for you!” those gathered in the hall began to chant.
In response, Putin said that “there is probably no better place and no better reason to announce this.”
"Thank you for support. I will nominate my candidacy for the post of President of the Russian Federation. I am sure that everything will work out for you and me,” the president said.
Putin kept intrigue for a long time about his participation in the 2018 elections of the year, but there was practically no doubt that he would go on to a new, already fourth, term.
Users of social networks, Putin's statement is also not surprised.

The question remains open as to which method of nomination Putin will choose—as a candidate from the parliamentary majority party “United Russia” or as a self-nominated candidate. Legally, the only thing that depends on this is whether the current president will collect voter signatures. According to the law, a self-nominated candidate must collect 300 thousand such signatures.
United Russia, after Putin’s speech at the GAZ plant, said that the party would take part in Putin’s campaign, no matter what form he takes.
The president himself, answering later the question of journalists, noted that he had not yet decided who would be the head of his campaign headquarters.
Previously, Putin participated in presidential elections both as a self-nominated candidate (in 2000 and 2004) and as a candidate from United Russia (in 2012).
The start of the presidential campaign is officially announced by the Federation Council - it must do this between December 7 and 17 at a plenary session. As follows from the schedule published on the official website of the upper house of parliament, it will take place on December 15.
After that, the candidates have 20 days to apply for nomination to the central election commission.
Previously, the intention to participate in the presidential election announced TV presenter Ksenia Sobchak, LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky, business ombudsman Boris Titov, founder of the Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK), Alexei Navalny, and several other lesser-known personalities.
