A highlight of the June Democratic Party’s initial debate on 27 in June was that all candidates on stage raised their hands in support of health plans, including illegal immigrants.

But many leaders now support this policy, paying more and more attention to how much it can cost to provide health insurance to millions of illegal immigrants. The Center for Immigration Studies (CIS), a political group that advocates for lowering immigration in general, has published a study. It says that the cost of providing medical assistance to illegal immigrants can be up to $ 23 billion per year.

A CIS study found that 4,9 million illegal immigrants have incomes below 400 percent of the poverty line and also do not have insurance. This means that they have very low incomes in order to get insurance coverage either under the Medicaid program or under the Affordable Care Act, which is known to many as ObamaCare.

According to the study, if all 100% of uninsured illegal immigrants eligible for insurance would receive subsidies under the ACA, then the cost of insurance would be $ 22,6 billion dollars. But with "predictable insurance" 46%, the total cost will be approximately $ 10,4 billion per year.

If the mixed approach of ACA subsidies and registration with Medicaid were used, the cost would drop to $ 19,6 billion with 100 percent coverage and $ 10,7 billion with “predictable insurance”.

These numbers could change significantly if the future Democratic White House and Congress conduct a more comprehensive revision of the health system.

“Not to mention the fact that presidential candidates advocate spending billions of dollars on people who are illegally in the country,” the report said. “The admission of a large number of poorly educated workers will inevitably lead to significant political pressure to give them access to social programs.”

However, extending medical care to illegal immigrants can be only one part of taxpayer spending on more generous social policies pursued by Democrats.

Rep. Alexandria Okasio-Cortez, a New York Democrat, recently introduced a new package of bills known as the Fair Society.

Among them is the Hug Law, which would allow illegal immigrants to legally claim the same social benefits as US citizens.

“Despite any other provision of the law ... an individual who is a foreigner (without taking into account the immigration status of this foreigner) cannot be deprived of any federal public benefit solely on the basis of the immigration status of a person,” the bill says.

The bill defines federal public benefit as follows: “Any grant, contract, loan, professional license, or commercial license granted by United States agencies or relevant United States funds; and ... any retirement, social security, health care, disability, state or auxiliary housing, post-secondary education, food assistance, unemployment benefits or any other such benefit for which payments are made or assistance to a person, household or family members ".
