In Illinois, a criminal stabbed 4 people, 7 were injured

On March 27, a gunman armed with a knife attacked people in several areas of Rockford, Illinois. As a result, four people were killed and seven more were injured. The suspect is in custody, reports CNN.

“We have no clear idea as to what drove this man to commit such heinous crimes,” she said.

How events developed

Police received the first call at 13:14 p.m., followed by other calls for help.

Officers responded to multiple calls in the area of ​​Holmes Street, Winnetka Drive and Cleveland Avenue. The suspect, a 22-year-old man, was arrested at 13:35 p.m., police said.

Winnebago County Sheriff Gary Caruana said county police received a call about a home invasion just after 13 p.m. According to him, a young woman ran away from the suspect.

“She has several stab wounds on her arms and face,” he said. — The victim of the attack is now in the hospital. She is intubated and in serious condition.”

Caruana said a passerby who stopped to help the woman was also stabbed.

"He is OK. He is being examined,” the sheriff emphasized.

Police say not all of the victims were stabbed and none had gunshot wounds. Officials did not say how the other victims died or how the victims were injured.

Police urged residents to check security cameras for footage of the incidents. Officials asked that any tips be reported to law enforcement or anonymously through Rockford Area Crime Stoppers.

Rockford is about 150 miles west of Chicago and has a population of about 150.

Mayor Tom McNamara said he was "appalled by this act of violence and the impact it is having on the lives of several families right now."

“It’s hard to understand how this could have happened,” the mayor wrote in a Facebook post. “As a father, son, husband, mayor and resident of Rockford, my heart breaks for those who lost their lives, their loved ones.”
