New details of shark attacks on children in New York
The New York State Department of the Environment is conducting a large-scale investigation into the simultaneous shark attack on two children on the beaches of Long Island.
12-year-old girl and 13-year-old boy in Sailors Haven and Atlantic Beach suffered from unprovoked shark attacks, writes NBC.
13-boy on Atlantic Beach at the time of the attack was on the board. After a bite, he fell off her into the water and swam quickly to the shore, he was met by rescuers. During the cleaning and disinfection of wounds, it was discovered that an animal’s tooth was stuck in the boy’s leg. He was pulled out and sent for analysis to determine the type of shark.
According to the father of the injured girl, she was waist-high in the water, when she suddenly started to panic and ran out to the shore. Parents noticed deep bites on her leg and went to the rescuers to provide first aid to the child.
The girl said that she did not feel pain, because the water was cold, but she felt a touch and looked down. There she saw a shark's fin; according to her, the animal was only about 60 long, see
“I thought it was a dream. “At first I really couldn’t believe that this was really happening,” said the victim.
Most of the Fair Island beaches where the incidents occurred closed down 18 July for investigation. They were reopened on Thursday by introducing additional security measures, in particular by increasing the number of rescuers. In addition, the island will patrol the helicopter.
Both affected children were discharged from the hospital, according to doctors, they are not in danger.
Recall 18 July on two different beaches in Fire Island (New York) sharks almost simultaneously bit a boy and a girl in the water.
Sharks are often seen on the beaches of Long Island and Jersey Shore, but attacks rarely occur. Since 1837, only 10 shark attacks have been reported in New York. Fifteen were registered in New Jersey and one in Connecticut.
