'Never seen a flood of this magnitude': Arkansas is losing more than $ 20 million a day. A PHOTO. VIDEO
Weeks of torrential rains in the Midwest led to large-scale flooding along the Arkansas River, flooding residential areas, and after breaking the dam, flood warnings and evacuation followed. But as the water level in the Arkansas River in Oklahoma begins to fall, the situation in Arkansas will worsen.
As the water moves south towards Conway and the state capital of Little Rock, officials fear it may flood the already overburdened system of dams. These flows, combined with the strong rain forecast early next week, became the biggest problem for this region, since this level of water has not risen since 1945.

The National Weather Service has stated that flash floods and thunderstorms can interfere with recovery work throughout the state.
The army engineering corps said that the dams in the area had to hold water this year for a much longer period than was calculated when they were built. Currently, the focus is on the dam on Lake Conway and how it will cope with the amount of water flowing downstream.

More than 500 homes in Arkansas have already been affected by the floods, several bridges have been temporarily closed, resulting in the barge stopping traffic and the staff’s daily economic loss of more than $ 20 million.
"It's so tragic what happened here ... people can't go back to their normal lives," said American Red Cross volunteer Bill Caldwell.
Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson signed an emergency declaration, which President Trump approved last Thursday, 30 in May, due to increased flooding in the state. But officials say they will not be able to ascertain the extent of the damage until the water recedes. It may take weeks.

Mayflower Mark Harrell resident’s home is located on a farm about 600 meters from the Arkansas River. He now has more than two inches (5 cm) of water in his house, and his family’s farm, which has been in operation for more than 80 years, has turned into a lake.
Approximately 60 miles (96,5 km) north-west of Little Rock in the Dardanelles, strong flood waters pierced an 40-foot (12 meter) hole through a dam. This caused the evacuation of the surrounding settlements.

“Everyone has a sad story: leaving their homes and coming back with nothing but water and dirt,” said resident Donna Traffanstedt.
Now the inhabitants of Conway face the same fate if the water level in the Arkansas River is expected to reach maximum in a few days or even weeks.
"No one would have ever thought this would happen... I've never seen a flood of this magnitude in the last 28 years," said Faulkner County Sheriff and Conway resident Tim Ryals.
Over the past few weeks, heavy rains have exceeded May records, raising water levels in rivers to a maximum in some parts of Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma.
At the time of this writing, 10 locations set a new record for water levels in the river during these long heavy rains. In Little Rock, water did not rise to the highest point since 1945.
