The driver died in an accident involving Mikhail Efremov: the actor faces up to 12 years in prison

The criminal case against actor Mikhail Efremov, who had an accident in Moscow, was re-qualified to a more serious article after the death of a Lada driver injured in an accident. This was announced by the head of the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for Moscow Vladimir Vasenin, writes "Present Tense".

Now the case is being investigated under paragraph “a” of Part 4 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code (“Violation of traffic rules committed while intoxicated and resulting in the death of a person through negligence”). The punishment ranges from 5 to 12 years in prison.

The accident occurred on June 8 at 21:44 near house 3 on Smolenskaya Square in Moscow. Mikhail Efremov, who was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee, drove into the oncoming lane and crashed into a Lada car.

As a result of the accident, Lada driver Sergei Zakharov, born in 1963, was seriously injured. He works as a courier for the online store Delikateska.ru. The victim suffered “an open fracture of the femur, fractured ribs, a closed head injury, and a combined head injury.” Zakharov was hospitalized in serious condition at the Sklifosovsky Research Institute. On the morning of June 9, the man died in hospital from his injuries.

The actor was released on his own recognizance and proper behavior. The actor admitted his guilt immediately after the accident, saying that “he is guilty and is ready to make amends for the harm caused.”

The examination confirmed the high alcohol content of the actor, said Interfax informed source.

“The examination showed Efremov’s alcohol content was 1,05 mg per liter of exhaled air. This corresponds to 2,1 ppm. This is the upper limit of the average degree of intoxication, the transition to severe intoxication,” the source said.

According to him, this condition is characterized by a violation of reflexes, reaction time, basic motor skills and articulate speech.

“With borderline high levels of intoxication, stupor, severe motor impairment, loss of the ability to understand the environment, loss of memory and consciousness are possible,” the source said.

How did Efremov react to the accident

Actor Ivan Stebunov spoke about the reaction of actor Mikhail Efremov to an accident with his participation, writes RIA News".

Stebunov noted that the artist was in a state of shock, however, he realized his guilt. When a colleague, arriving at the scene of the accident, ran up to Efremov, he was sitting in the back seat of a police car.

“I say, “What are you doing?” And he sits, leaning his head against the window: “Vanya, that’s it. This is the end,” Stebunov noted.

According to him, Efremov wished that during the investigation of the incident everything would be “according to the law.”

“No one is going to excuse him. Efremov will answer for everything he has done. Of course, a lot of people have already joined, they are looking for a lawyer. But he is ready for a real deadline,” Stebunov said.
