A man from Chicago jumped into the lake for 365 days in any weather: how and why did he do it
A Chicago bus driver looking for a way to relieve stress during the coronavirus pandemic jumped into Lake Michigan for the 365th consecutive day on Saturday, June 12. Writes about it AP.
Dan O'Conor said he started jumping into a lake at Montrose Harbor on the north side of town last year to relieve stress.
“It was during a pandemic, it was during protests, it was during an election year... So I was able to come down here and block out all the noise and kind of be fully present in the moment of diving into the lake, and find some moments of zen,” said father of three children.

He continued to jump into the lake all year round, including during the winter, when he had to cut a hole in the ice on the frozen lake that was large enough to jump over. He said that when he returned home after one such jump, he found about 20 scratches and cuts on his body.

He was encouraged by the response to this undertaking.
“People started asking me if this was beneficial and how they could support me - I'm talking about strangers on the Internet. When I started posting the videos on Twitter and Instagram, I got more response because people started commenting, “This made my day, good to see,” he said.

Saturday was special because it was the highlight of the whole year.
“I just wanted to celebrate my desire to dive in the lake for 365 days,” O’Conor said.
Judging by the last tweet on June 14, he decided to continue jumping even after that date.
