The lightning struck the first man, causing him to fall onto the sand. The bolt traveled across the sand and struck another person, who ran to safety, video shows.

The injured man was taken to hospital, where he later died.
L'Aquila Mayor Jose Valencia said the woman who died was from Guanajuato and the man was a hammock seller who lived in the neighboring city of Colima.
