The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) said the bear will be relocated to or near the Ocala National Forest in Marion County, Florida, which is about 90 minutes north of the Walt Disney World Resort.
The bear was spotted on the morning of September 18 in a tree near Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom. Several areas and attractions on the west side of Magic Kingdom have been temporarily closed, including parts of Adventureland, Frontierland and Liberty Square.
Several popular attractions also closed briefly, including Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean.
These areas and attractions have now reopened.
“FWC is aware of a black bear sighting in a tree on Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom property. Biologists from the FWC Bear Management Program are on the scene, as are FWC law enforcement officials, the FWC said in a statement early on the morning of Sept. 18. “In most cases, it is best for bears to be given room to move around on their own, but in this situation, staff are working to capture and relocate the bear.”
Walt Disney World confirmed in a statement that it is working with the FWC: “We are working with the FWC and have made the decision to reopen Frontierland, Liberty Square and Adventureland at Magic Kingdom Park.”
