How Israel responded to these Hamas provocations in an exclusive interview Rtvi told the country's defense minister Avigdor Lieberman.

The politician admitted that the week after the opening of the American embassy in Jerusalem was not easy due to clashes at the border, but he is confident that Hamas does not want a conflict with Israel.

“The last thing Hamas wants today is a conflict with Israel, because it understands how it will end. That is why they try to play on the verge of a foul. On the one hand, these marches of terror. On the other hand, they in no way want to turn this into a full-scale conflict, because the result is known in advance,” Lieberman said.

He added that the leader of this radical organization, Ihya Sinwar, himself said that he was not looking for a conflict with Israel.

At the same time, Hamas launched a confrontation at the border to lift the blockade of Gaza.

“Hamas’ strategic goal is to lift the blockade. Not for economic development, but in order to freely smuggle weapons and bring Iranian emissaries to Gaza. And the means is to attract public opinion. Hamas treats its own population as just another kind of weapon. Another type of weapon. There are missiles, and then there are women, children, and so on - they use this as a human shield. Hamas needs all these demonstrations, all this, to attract the attention of compassionate Westerners who are very worried,” Lieberman explained.

According to him, the population of Gaza is very dissatisfied with such a situation, it can be seen on social networks. But they are not protesting, because the Hamas regime is very cruel, they can even send young children to death.

The minister once again stressed that during the protests on the border between Israel and Gaza, there were not ordinary residents of the region, but Hamas militants, so it was Israel’s self-defense, not the killing of civilians, as European politicians and media present it. Lieberman said that the protesters were armed and tried to break into the territory of Israel.

“They were all armed, they tried to plant bombs, they came with big pliers, armed with Kalashnikovs.” In our country, apparently, the West has decided that we do not have the right to defend ourselves and we must allow Hamas to kill our citizens. Nothing has changed, history teaches nothing. In 1939, everyone knew that Germany wanted to exterminate the Jews. But in Europe they continued to not issue certificates to those Jews who wanted to leave Europe and go to Palestine. Even when they knew what was happening in the death camps, no one bombed them or destroyed them. So, unfortunately, there is nothing new in the West’s approach,” Lieberman emphasized.

He added that moving the American embassy to Jerusalem is an important step towards the “realization of the national idea” of Israel, but “it has its own price” - Palestinian terrorists could use it as a pretext to increase aggression.

“Hamas, in any case, without even looking for an excuse, is trying to kill our citizens. Of course, he used this pretext and tried to mobilize people. There were no spontaneous demonstrations there. We need to understand once again under what slogans the demonstrations took place there. Not the desire to build economic ties, not the desire to make life better, or the idea of ​​coexistence. Hamas’s slogan is very simple - we will destroy the Zionist entity and return all refugees to Jaffa, Haifa, Safed,” Lieberman noted.

He believes that the Middle East is the most problematic region in the world, and Israel is simply surrounded by threats from all sides.

“Our strategic mistake occurred thousands of years ago when Moses led us to the Middle East rather than to the border of Switzerland and Italy. This is probably the most problematic region in the world. And on our borders the whole bouquet of terror is presented. Hezbollah in Lebanon, ISIS in Sinai, Hamas in Gaza, al-Qaeda in Syria. This is the real circuit that exists around us. We live in a complex and turbulent region. Not everything depends on us. It takes two to tango. We want to live in peace, develop science and technology, but we don’t choose our neighbors. These are those who are present next to us and I do not know two Arab states in the Middle East that are at peace with each other. They fight there all the time. Unfortunately, the Middle East will not become Benelux or Scandinavia in the next 70 years,” Lieberman said.

The politician stressed that one of the main tasks of Israel is to contain Iran’s attempts to strengthen its influence and presence in Syria, and so far the country succeeds. He supported the resumption of US sanctions against Iran, but noted that Europe, most likely, will not restore its sanctions.

“Europe does not want to leave the agreement. This is the same Europe that agreed to the Munich Agreement in 1938. From our side, the agreement with Iran is no different from the agreement in Munich. On our part, we will do everything that needs to be done,” the minister said.
