According to the US Department of Agriculture, from 3о% to 40% of deformed fruits and vegetables are simply thrown away.
At the same time, the fruits of the non-marketable type do not differ in taste from those that are on store shelves, and the company decided to use this Imperfect, writes Chicago Tribune.
Its founder, Ben Chesler, buys outwardly imperfect fruits and vegetables from farmers and sells them at 30-50% cheaper than the cost of similar products in stores.
The company operates in San Francisco, Los Angeles (California), Portland (Oregon), Seattle (Washington) and Chicago (Illinois), offering customers to order the vegetables and fruits they need online, after which they will be delivered to the consumer home.
Product prices depend on the size and type of order. The cost of a small bag of 3-4 kg of organic vegetables and fruits ranges from $15 to $17. A large package - about 11 kg - will cost $39-$43. Shipping cost is $4,99.
Buyers can make orders on the company's website: www.imperfectproduce.com. 100% organic fruit or vegetable kits can be ordered, as well as fruit and vegetable mixes. It is worthwhile to form an order in advance, since the delivery time will depend on where the customer lives. The service is just beginning to work in Chicago, so the delivery in this city will begin in December, but the company is already accepting orders from residents of the metropolis.
