How not to behave when crossing the US border. VIDEO

A teacher from San Diego, California, told and showed how, in New Mexico, border control agents kept her family at the border for an hour after she repeatedly refused to answer questions about whether she was a US citizen.

Shane Parmeli in his account at Facebook shared a video of what was happening at the border.

“Basically, make sure you have a full tank of gas to keep your air conditioning running, some water, and some snacks,” Parmi wrote in the first post. “I also recommend a pillow because it’s a great place to take a nap.”

The confrontation with the border guards began after Parmeli and his family in a car were stopped at a checkpoint and asked if the passengers were US citizens.

"Are we crossing the border?" - can be heard in the video. "No. Are you citizens of the United States?” the agent asked.

“Are we crossing the border? - Parmelee asks again. “I’ve never been asked how much of a citizen I am when I’m driving down the road.”

Parmeli insists that she does not need to answer the question of agents.

“You have to answer an immigration question,” the agent said. “You are not required to answer any other questions.”

After she was told that she was being detained, Parmeli said: “So, if I just come and say“ yes, I’m a citizen, ”can I just go on?”

“If the agent is satisfied with the answer, then yes,” the agent said.

“So if I have an accent and my skin is dark, can I just say yes and move on or do I have to prove it?” the teacher asked. “I have a group of teacher friends who are against their children being discriminated against.”

“Okay, I don’t discriminate against anyone,” the agent replied.

Parma and her family were eventually allowed to leave, and she never admitted whether she was a US citizen or not, despite repeated attempts by agents to find out.

Many people commended the teacher’s actions on her page in FacebookHowever, there are those who criticized, calling it "hypocritical."

Later, the border patrol stated that if someone refuses to answer questions, the agent “may detain the driver for a reasonable amount of time until he or she can decide on the resident’s immigration status.”
