American economist suspected Russia in the “sink” of the Panamanian dossier

Behind the leak "Panamanian dossier" can be Russian special services and the president personally Russia's Vladimir Putin.

This assumption made in his блоге on the website of the Brookings Institute, economist, former adviser to the Russian Ministry of Finance, Clifford Gaddy.

As evidence of his ideas, the scientist cites several facts.

Firstly, in his opinion, the Kremlin did not become a victim of the publication of the scandalous “Panama Papers”.

“In fact, there is almost no information in the Panama Papers that could harm Russian President Vladimir Putin,” he believes.

He recalled that over the past 10 years, many have speculated about Putin’s personal state, evaluating him at 20, 40, 70, and even at 100 billions of dollars.

“And now they managed to find only 2 billion belonging to his friend,” the economist sneers.

But at the same time, the Panama Papers contains a lot of information that has already put the leaders of other countries in the world in a difficult position.

Another factor pointing to the Kremlin’s hand, according to Gaddy, is that in 2015, the proposal to transfer Mossack Fonseca’s data to the German edition of Süddeutsche Zeitung allegedly came from a hacker, supported by the Russian government.

The author suggests that the Federal Service for Financial Monitoring of Russia, which, according to a scientist, Putin’s personal financial intelligence unit, could have been behind the cyber attack on Mossack Fonseca and the subsequent leak.

The economist believes that the most important thing about the offshore scandal is that few Americans appear in the Panama Papers, and this, in his opinion, may indicate that their data was deleted for the purpose of their further use for blackmail.

Gaddy suggested that the purpose of the document leak operation was to tell the United States and other Western leaders who were not mentioned that the sources also had information about their financial crimes.

“Those mentioned in the leaked documents are not targets. Targets are those who were not mentioned in them. Secrets are revealed to be destroyed. And they hide to control. Putin doesn’t want to destroy. He wants to control,” the author believes.

Despite the stated facts, Gaddy is not completely sure of the correctness of his conclusions.

“This is not a theory, and hardly even a hypothesis. It is rather a suggestion as to what should be seriously investigated,” he writes.
