US military spotted Russian submarine near Alaska

“The command is closely monitoring the Russian submarine that surfaced near Alaska today. We are closely monitoring the vessels of interest to us, including foreign naval vessels, which are in our area of ​​responsibility, "- said representatives of the American army on Twitter.

The department clarified that the submarine rose from a depth in international waters, outside the territorial waters of the United States. The submarine did not submit any requests for assistance, but if necessary, the US naval forces are ready to provide assistance, the Northern Command noted.

Representatives of the Russian armed forces have not yet officially commented on the situation. However, according to a RIA Novosti source in the Pacific Fleet, nothing happened to the submarine. As the interlocutor of the agency clarified, the submarine that surfaced near Alaska is the nuclear submarine "Omsk", which is taking part in the exercises.

On August 27, the Russian Defense Ministry announced a tactical exercise of the Pacific Fleet in the Bering Sea with the participation of the Varyag missile cruiser and the Omsk nuclear submarine.
