Americans in Russia urged to be extra careful and asked not to go to crowded places

The US Embassy in Moscow on February 20 issued a warning about possible threats to Americans in Moscow and St. Petersburg, reports AXIOS.

“According to media reports, there is a threat of attacks on shopping malls, railway and metro stations, other crowded places in large cities, including Moscow and St. Petersburg, as well as in areas of high tension along the Russian border with Ukraine,” it says in the message.

The embassy urges Americans to "avoid crowds," "review their personal security plans," "carry proper identification, including a US passport with a valid Russian visa," and "have evacuation plans independent of US government assistance."

After a busy weekend of conflicting rumors about whether Vladimir Putin had decided to invade Ukraine, President Biden called a meeting of the National Security Council on February 20.

Earlier on Feb. 20, Macron and Putin spoke by phone, agreeing that "a diplomatic solution to the current crisis must be given top priority," the Elysee Palace said in a statement.

Macron also spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
