A group of members of the Republican Party headed by Ted Cruz tried on the very first day of the congress, which determines the party candidate for the presidential election, to make changes to the forum rules. However, they failed, which led to loud protests in the hall and a demonstrative exit of some delegates.

Among the initiators of the innovations, along with the current campaign member Cruise, were former candidate for governor of Virginia, Ken Chuchinelli, and Utah senator Mike Lee. They proposed changes to the procedure for determining the US presidential candidate in the 2020 election of the year.

However, as experts explain, the adoption of new rules could lead to calls for a review of the current rules. For example, Cruz and other opponents of Trump want the primaries and caucuses to be completely closed to those who are not members of the Republican Party.

In addition, it is proposed to give the will of the delegates to the congress not to vote for the candidate whom the sending region supported in the preliminary stage.

“This concerns the future of the party. This is not about Donald Trump, Mike Lee, around whom Trump supporters were indignant, tried to explain. “As Conservatives, we always strive to ensure that our rules are suitable for electing good candidates in the future.” I'd like to see a Conservative candidate in the future, but it's not about this year."

Lee, however, argues that it is impossible to talk about a split in the Republican Party.

Trump's opponents call for a vote by name, but through the efforts of associates of the billionaire candidate and the organizers of the party congress, he was avoided.

Last week, the Rules Committee also blocked the proposed changes by a majority vote - only 12 members of the Rules Committee supported them, with the required minimum of 28 votes.

According to fellow Trump Rick Gates, they expect the same result now.

“Our goal is to defeat them decisively,” Gates said.

One of the delegates, John Steinbrook from Ohio, said he would like to see the nominees from the Republicans governor of his state John Caseyk.

“In any case, we will not vote for Hillary Clinton,” Stainbrook concluded.

The Republican convention, at which Trump himself must be officially called the presidential candidate, opened on monday in cleveland.
