Estonian special services announced that Russia was preparing for war with NATO because of Belarus

The Estonian foreign intelligence service analyzed Russian military exercises and concluded that Moscow was “preparing for a military conflict” with NATO. It can be provoked by the “color revolution” in Belarus, writes RBC.

The only serious threat to regional security for Estonia and other Baltic countries comes from Russia, the Estonian Foreign Intelligence Service warned in its new annual report, International Security and Estonia. Estonian intelligence made a similar conclusion after analyzing Russian military exercises.

Estonian intelligence noted that last year Russia “continued to build up its military power” along its western border.

“The Russian armed forces are consistently practiced for a significant military conflict with NATO,” concludes Estonian intelligence. All scenarios of military exercises of the last two decades describe the usual military operations against NATO and the countries - members of the alliance, the document says.

At the same time, the intelligence of Estonia notes, the general order of Russian military exercises and their scenarios have not changed, despite the events in Georgia, Ukraine, Syria, as well as the sanctions and the deployment of NATO forces in the Baltic States and Poland.

“Secondly, as the Russian armed forces see it, the military conflict with NATO will begin with a“ color revolution ”in one of the countries neighboring Russia.

The scenarios of Russian military doctrines reflect the fear inherent in authoritarian regimes, the Estonian intelligence concluded. “Russian leaders fear that democratic regime changes may escalate into a wider regional war.”

In connection with this, says the intelligence of Estonia, she monitors the situation in Belarus.

“Our assessment is that if something unexpected happens to President Alexander Lukashenko personally or his regime, there will be a big risk of quick military action from Russia to prevent Belarus from becoming a democratically pro-Western country,” Estonian intelligence warns.

The report emphasizes that Estonia is a member of NATO and it will be easier for Russia to attack the alliance from the Baltic countries. “From the point of view of military planning, Russia does not consider Estonia as the ultimate goal, but looks at it as part of NATO. Therefore, Estonia should be ready for a military invasion from Russia, even if the conflict between Russia and NATO starts anywhere in the world, ”the report says.

Earlier, Estonian foreign intelligence chief Mikk Marran accused Russia of trying to separate the EU and NATO. This is “a direct threat to Estonia,” he warned.
