Whole Foods dramatically reduces the prices of hundreds of products.
Whole Foods is trying to get rid of the nickname "whole salary", which the network received because of its high prices with a hint that the buyer leaves a lot of money in the store at each visit.
To attract new shoppers, Whole Foods Market - which was purchased by Amazon almost two years ago - is cutting prices by about 3% starting midday on April 20, writes New York Post.
This will be the third round of price cuts since Whole Foods bought Amazon for 2017 billion dollars in 13,7, which raises questions about the length of the discount period.
“Over time, prices at Whole Foods gradually began to rise,” said Edward Jones analyst Brian Yarbrough. “Most of their prices are 30-40% higher than their competitors anyway, so a 20% reduction won’t be enough to entice budget-conscious shoppers.”
Most of the discounts will be on produce - for example, mangoes will sell for $1 each, and a bunch of chard will sell for $1,99.
Amazon Prime members will receive more significant discounts - in addition to the 10%, they will get "hundreds more products" cheaper.
Examples of new prices for Prime members: $2 off per pound of asparagus, which will cost $2,99; 33% off spiral sliced ham, which costs $3,99 per pound; and $1,50 per pound for Sumo oranges, the company said.
The first round of price cuts occurred just a few days after 24’s August 2017 deal, when Amazon bought the network and lowered prices for selected product groups, including avocados, bananas, farmed salmon, brown eggs and other food products.
Analysts began tracking Whole Foods prices soon after and found that the decline was more an illusion than a reality. But this time, according to Gordon Haskett analyst Chuck Grom, things could be different. The expert noted that this time prices for “hundreds of products” will actually be reduced, which makes this promotion more noticeable than previous ones.
