Florida student arrested for refusing to swear allegiance to US flag
In Florida, they arrested 11-year-old sixth-grade student Lawton Chiles Middle Academy in Lakeland for refusing to read the oath of allegiance to the US flag, writes Fox News.
The boy was accused of violating school order and resisting arrest.
The incident occurred on February 4, when the boy told the teacher that he did not want to take an oath because he believed that "the flag and the national anthem are racist towards African Americans."
To which the teacher answered the child: “Why, if you feel so bad here, you did not go to live in another place?”. To which the child replied: "They brought me here."
The student was arrested after he refused to follow the instructions of the teacher and called the school staff racists. The boy's name is not revealed.
The mother of the child said that "the teacher who noticed that the child has problems related to the attitude to the flag was not worth the way to solve this problem."
Kyle Kennedy, a school spokesman, said that students are not required to take an oath and that collaboration with the teacher will be terminated.
