In a residential building in New York, an elevator collapsed: a man died
On Thursday morning, August 22, a man died due to a malfunction in an elevator in a residential building in Manhattan. Writes about it New York Post.
The incident occurred in an 23-story luxury residential building in Manhattan.
Anthony Arpaya, deputy chief of the New York Fire Department (FDNY), said that the man was leaving the elevator (where there were still people) in the lobby when the elevator suddenly collapsed into the basement, as a result of which the man was stuck between the elevator car and the shaft wall on the first floor .
According to Arpay, one person safely left the elevator before the victim, whose identity was not disclosed, was trapped.
The victim was “stuck between the ground floor and the basement,” Arpaya said, adding that “some people still remained in the elevator after he went down to the basement.”

According to sources, the victim was an 30-year-old man, allegedly a resident of the building. He was pronounced dead by a city forensic expert at the scene.
Authorities said the remaining passengers in the elevator were safely rescued and taken out of the basement.
“The FDNY had to work very hard to get the elevator moving,” Arpaia said.
Inspectors from the city building department were also at the scene of the investigation.
There are 183 apartments in this building. It was built in the late 1990's, there is a 24-hour doorman working here, and many apartments have balconies or terraces.
