In Texas, the court released from custody hundreds of immigrants with children

Hundreds of women and children from 2 family detention centers were released after a Texas judge took into account the arguments of critics who indicate that child care centers are more like prisons, writes The Huffington Post.

This decision was a victory for the defenders of the rights of immigrants, who claim that locking up mothers and children seeking asylum in the United States is extremely inhuman.

Because of the protracted legal process, the centers have become unacceptable for keeping children there. Mothers and children, most of the countries of Central America, may languish in detention centers for several months while their cases are heard in an immigration court.

Given such a large influx of families, volunteers tried to accept everyone. The church helped them in this.

Human rights groups called on the Obama administration to stop the practice of detaining families until the end of his administration.

"Even though you have nice furniture and colorful walls, it doesn't mitigate the fact that these are prisons for children," said Luis Zayas, a social work professor at the University of Texas at Austin.
