In the USA, they learned how to diagnose cancer with a selfie

Researchers at the University of Washington have created an application with which they claim they can diagnose pancreatic cancer.

All you have to do is take a selfie and the program will then calculate whether you have symptoms of the disease. How does this application work and can you trust it?

Because of cancer, proteins may turn yellow, but it is not always possible to see with the naked eye. You need to wear special glasses, with their help, the application adapts to the lighting.

The goal of the creators is to diagnose the disease as early as possible.

The purpose of the application is to identify how much jaundice has affected the white of the eye. In general, jaundice can be a symptom of various diseases, but we are interested in pancreatic cancer, since very few patients with this type of cancer live more than five years.

The creators see two possibilities to use this application.

First, it can be used for screening. So people who have a high probability of getting sick will know about it. They can use the app sometimes, and if they need it, they will see a doctor as soon as possible.

Secondly, it can be used by people who are already sick and are being treated in a hospital. Suppose they do not want to donate blood every 24 hour. All the necessary indicators will be able to calculate our application.

Primary studies have shown that the application data on 90% coincides with the analysis data.

Steve Jobs has died of pancreatic cancer, but whether it is possible to reveal it with a smartphone is still unknown. However, the authors of one of the studies are not so optimistic.

There is no evidence that the application will be able to accurately detect pancreatic cancer, because jaundice can be a symptom of other diseases. This technology must pass a lot of clinical trials to find out how useful and reliable the invention is.
