AT&T may launch 5G in 2018

Telecommunications company AT&T plans to roll out 5G communications in 12 US cities.

According to Platfor.maAT & T claims the company will be the first in the US to provide subscribers with access to next-generation networks.

It is planned that 5G will support record speeds and traffic volumes, as well as provide the ability to connect more mobile devices to one base station.

It was originally planned that 5G would be launched only after 2020. But at the end of December 2017, the 3GPP consortium, which is responsible for standardizing mobile communications, approved the basic specifications of the 5G standard - before that they simply did not exist. From now on, 5G can be officially launched.

AT&T did not disclose the details and details of 5G. The company also does not disclose in which cities the new connection will be.

It's not just AT&T that has announced plans to roll out 5G. So, by mid-2018, the company promises to launch 5G in Sacramento, California Verizon. Large-scale tests of communications will be held in Georgia, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, Texas and Washington (DC), сообщает Venture Beat.

"5G will change the way we live, work and play," said Melissa Arnoldi, AT&T President of Technology. "With faster speeds and ultra-low latency, 5G will enable virtual reality, self-driving cars, 4K video and more."

Also 5G in 2019 promises the company Sprint, and in 2020 - T-Mobile.
