A child born of Zika virus was born in New Jersey

During a prenatal appointment on Friday, May 29, doctors performed an ultrasound examination, which showed that the baby had significant microcephaly, the most dangerous consequence of the Zika virus. Babies with microcephaly have small heads and underdeveloped brains. The baby was diagnosed with some other congenital diseases.

A mother who has relatives in New Jersey went to the United States from Honduras in the hope of getting better medical care.
The doctor at the clinic where the child with microcephaly was born, Al-Khan, believes that the woman guessed that the fetus could be affected by the virus.
Presumably, the woman became infected in the second trimester of pregnancy. She experienced a fever and a rash, which are known to be the main symptoms of Zika virus infection.
This is the second case of having a baby with microcephaly in the United States. The first child was born in Hawaii.
According to the US National Registry, more than 300 pregnant women with Zika virus currently live in the country.
