In Missouri, a 8-year-old boy set fire to a peer by spraying varnish remover

In Missouri, a 7-year-old boy suffered severe burns to his face and upper body after another boy poured nail polish remover on him and set fire to it, writes USA Today.

The mother of the injured child, Ashley Lyons, said that an 8-year-old boy poured a flammable liquid on her son Julien Sandlin, and then set it on fire using a candle. The incident occurred in a residential complex where both children live. The injured boy was sent to Children's Mercy Hospital, where he was operated on to save his face and hands.

The internal organs of the child also suffered; he may need a skin transplant. There is a threat of lung failure of the boy. Doctors say that it will take years to restore the skin, in addition, the skin pigment on the affected areas can be affected, and the normal skin color will never be restored.

“This is a very painful process for him. The incident has caused a lot of anxiety, anger and confusion. He's trying to cope with it as best he can, as best as a 7-year-old boy can,” the victim's mother said.

The boy’s mother was absent when the incident occurred. To help the child, a neighbor ran out with a wet towel in his hands to put out the fire.

The local police reported that they did not know about the incident until there were reports in the media. An investigation into the incident was launched on 9 August.

Lyons has created a page on the portal GoFundMe to raise funds for the treatment and recovery of her child.
