Protests resumed in Armenia, activists block roads

Activists oppose the country’s ruling party, the Republican Party of Armenia, writes News Armenia.

On the streets of the city were students who move from one university to another, calling for supporters of the national movement to join the actions, many roads in the city center are blocked, in addition, opposition supporters are already going near the government building.

Hundreds of demonstrators march through almost all the streets of Yerevan, blocking roads with garbage cans and benches.

Opposition leader Nikol Pashinyan urged to resume 29 rallies in April at 12: 00 local time and block the streets, but he asked for 16: 00 all approaches to Yerevan to be unblocked so that residents of the districts could get to the city for a rally to be held on the square Republic in 19: 00.

He himself intends in 17: 00 to begin a march from the Square of France in the center of Yerevan, which will also end in the Square of the Republic.

The opposition leader stressed that all actions should be exclusively peaceful, and urged to avoid any manifestations of violence against each other and the police.

In the wake of 13 April large-scale protests On April 23, Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan announced his resignation. On the same day, Armenian President Armen Sargsyan accepted the resignation of the government. At the April 25 rally, Nikol Pashinyan was proposed as a candidate for prime minister. All oppositional factions announced their intention to support Pashinyan’s candidacy. The ruling party said it would not run. Presumably the vote for the new prime minister will be held in the Armenian parliament on May 1.
