The Tallapousa County Sheriff's Department reported August 2 that Jose Paulino Pascual-Reyes, 37, of Dadeville, Alabama, was arrested and charged with first-degree kidnapping, three counts of capital murder, and two counts of maltreatment. with a corpse.

It was unclear if Pascual-Reyes had a lawyer.

Jimmy Ebbett, Tallapousa County Sheriff, told a press conference that just before 8:30 a.m. on August 1, a driver spotted a girl walking on a road near 3547 County Road 34 in Dadeville, Alabama, and called 911.

According to the sheriff, the arriving police officers provided medical assistance to the girl and began an investigation. When they entered the kidnapper's home, officials said they found two decomposing bodies.

Court documents say the girl was tied to a bed for almost a week while she was held in a state of drug intoxication. The documents say the girl managed to free herself and escape. She chewed through the ropes.

Sheriff Ebbett declined to provide details about when the girl may have been abducted, the relationship between the girl and Pascual-Reyes, or details of the two bodies found, including identification and cause of death.

Authorities said the girl, who is not missing, is "doing well."

"She's a hero," Sheriff Ebbett said. "She's safe."

Sheriff Abbet said he believes Pascual-Reyes has been living in the house since February. He added that other people were in the house by the time authorities arrived, but the sheriff did not provide details.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Homeland Security, along with numerous local agencies, are assisting in the investigation.
