911 announces major changes in service in New York

In New York, they plan to technically improve and update the 911 service system, according to the Department of Information, Technology and Telecommunications (DoITT).

The report says that already at the beginning of 2018, New Yorkers will be able to use the “Write in 911” program. This feature will allow people who suffer from speech or hearing impairment, or become victims of a crime and cannot send a voice message, write text messages to dispatchers of the service.

In addition, DoITT is looking for developers who will create a user system called NextGeneration 911. This feature will allow you to send to the rescue service photos and videos from the emergency site. The system will also check the location of the person. It is expected that these updates will work in 2022 year.

Recall that since 2004, more than $ 2 billion was spent on upgrading the emergency call system in New York. As part of the modernization, the 911 call center in the Bronx was opened, which operates as a backup center that supports the work of the Brooklyn 911 office. The office in the Bronx earned 1 June.
