United Airlines customers can now combine their award miles to purchase tickets
United Airlines will allow groups of up to five MileagePlus members to share and redeem their bonus miles through one linked account, says Travel Leisure.
Crediting bonus miles to a joint account will not affect an individual member's status with the airline. And if you have been dreaming of a private flight, then read about the cheapest private jets that you can rent in our material.
“We are proud to be the first major U.S. airline to allow our members to combine their miles with family and friends,” said Luke Bondar, chief operating officer of MileagePlus. “The combination of MileagePlus miles further strengthens United's position as a leader in family and group travel. This gives our members more flexibility in how they use their miles while making it easier to access their destinations.”
How the new feature works
To share miles, traveler can create a group for free and invite up to four friends and family members. Each of them can then add as many of their personal miles to the group as they want. After this, they can be exchanged for air tickets.

The group organizer must be at least 18 years old, while the rest of the participants have no age limit.
United's MileagePlus program allows travelers to earn Premier Qualifying Points (PQPs). This can be done through flying, using co-branded credit cards or online shopping. Miles can be used to purchase airline tickets, upgrade class of service, book hotels, pay for Wi-Fi on board and more.
In addition, the company allows travelers to exchange unwanted gift cards for airline miles.
While United bills itself as the "first" major airline to offer this service, JetBlue has been providing it since 2013.
