Ukraine closed borders for most foreigners

Adaptive quarantine in Ukraine was extended again, this time until the end of October. The decision was made at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on Wednesday, August 26. Writes about it "Voice of America".

“We are extending quarantine until October 31,” Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said. As he explained, the authorities were prompted to such actions by the rapid increase in the incidence in recent weeks.

The government also announced the closure of borders for foreign citizens. The decision was made public on Thursday, August 27. The ban on entry will be valid for a month - from August 28 to September 29. The only exceptions are certain categories of foreigners - those who have a residence permit, go to Ukraine to study and others. “We must protect our fellow citizens and show responsibility to our foreign partners,” the head of the Cabinet of Ministers said.

Who can enter Ukraine

with the BBC reports that in addition to people with a view of permanent or temporary residence and students, the following will be able to enter the territory of Ukraine:

• refugees or those in need of special protection;
• diplomats, employees of international organizations and their families, as well as those who were officially invited by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Ukraine;
• NATO military instructors or the Partnership for Peace program of the North Atlantic Alliance who will train Ukrainian military personnel, or travel at the invitation of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense.

These categories of foreigners do not need to have additional insurance in case of infection with coronavirus.

Also in Ukraine will be allowed:

• those who go through Ukraine in transit and leave it within two days (and there are relevant supporting documents about this);
• people who study in Ukraine;
• foreigners who serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU);
• bus drivers and crew members of planes, ships and trains that regularly run across Ukraine;
• cultural figures who come at the invitation of cultural institutions, and one of their accompanying;
• athletes to official competitions and the people who accompany them;
• people who "transport hematopoietic stem cells for transplantation";
• those who travel to Ukrainian medical institutions for treatment.

All of them (of the second category) will need to have insurance policies covering treatment for COVID-19 and observation (issued in insurance companies registered in Ukraine).

In addition, the Chairman of the State Border Service may allow entry for other categories of the population in individual cases.

Separate conditions for Belarusians

The Ukrainian Prime Minister also mentioned the opportunity for political emigrants from Belarus to come to Ukraine.

“Citizens of Belarus who are under pressure or persecution and need additional protection can always receive it in Ukraine,” wrote Denis Shmygal.

“Those citizens of Belarus who want to receive protection in Ukraine can arrive at the border checkpoints and inform our border guards about this,” explained the head of government.
