Ukraine received the most powerful weapon from the USA

US Department of State confirmed with the BBC transfer of American Javelin anti-tank missile systems to the Ukrainian armed forces.

The Ukrainians have long shown particular interest in the American Javelin anti-tank systems due to their high efficiency, but so far no deliveries have been reported.

A diplomatic spokeswoman responded briefly to the request, noting in a letter: “We delivered them.”

The President of Ukraine welcomed the keen interest, both in Ukraine and abroad, which was generated by the supply of Javelin complexes.

“I can only confirm that yes, the long-awaited weapon has arrived in the Ukrainian army. And it significantly strengthened the powerful deterrent effect of our combat capability and Euro-Atlantic security,” Petro Poroshenko wrote on his Facebook page. “We continue to work to strengthen our defense capabilities to repel Russian aggression.”

“I am sincerely grateful for Donald Trump’s fair decision in support of Ukraine, in defense of freedom and democracy. Washington not only fulfilled our joint agreement, it demonstrated leadership and an important example,” the Ukrainian president added.

At the beginning of March 2018, the State Department agreed in principle to send anti-tank systems and sighting and launch equipment to Ukraine with a value of 47 million dollars. It was about 37 launch blocks and 210 charges to them.

The system manufacturer is Raytheon/Lockheed Martin, according to the website of the Pentagon agency, which is responsible for defense cooperation.

In turn, it was it that presented the corresponding proposal to the US Congress.

US President Donald Trump authorized the delivery of lethal weapons to Ukraine in December 2017 of the year: the deal included sniper systems, ammunition, and spare parts worth 41,5 million dollars.

Congress authorized such sales in 2014 through the Ukraine Freedom Support Act, but the Obama administration never took advantage of them.

The possibility that the United States could supply Ukraine with lethal weapons, including anti-tank complexes, was openly talked about last July.

Then the US State Department's special representative for conflict resolution in Ukraine, Kurt Volker, said that Washington was considering the possibility of supplying "defensive weapons" to the Ukrainian army - including ones that would allow Ukraine to defend itself and, for example, disable tanks, he said.

Ability to supply complexes Javelins and the implications of such shipments were widely discussed in the Ukrainian and Russian press and in the expert community. Some experts agreed that the appearance of these complexes would fundamentally change the situation on the confrontation line in the Donbass, while other analysts limited themselves to rather cautious forecasts.

For example, an expert in the field of armored vehicles, Andrei Tarasenko, then stated that the effectiveness Javelins depends on the degree of training of military personnel.

In the conflict in eastern Ukraine, armored vehicles, including tanks, play a decisive role, and the appearance of such an effective anti-tank weapon on one side cannot but change the situation and tactics of combat.

Anti-missile complex Javelins adopted by the US Army in 1996 year. The cost of one complex complete with 6 missiles is 1,3 million dollars (2017).
