Ukraine and Russia make it difficult for each other to enter

Ukraine has tightened entry rules for Russians, placing Russia on the list of “migration risk” states. Russia is preparing a response.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed decree according to which with 1 January 2018, the rules for the entry of Russian citizens into Ukrainian territory will be tightened.

According to the presidential administration, the procedure for entry of Russians and persons without Ukrainian citizenship will be held in three stages.

First, Russians must give advance notice of their desire to come to Ukraine. To do this, the Ukrainian government must develop a “preliminary electronic notification” mechanism two months in advance.

Once at the border, Russians will have to present a biometric passport. If it is not there, submit biometric data. Upon arrival at the venue, you will need to register.

Russia in return will impose on Ukrainian citizens the obligation to inform in advance about their arrival in Russia if Kiev implements this measure already announced by it against Russians, said the head of the Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots Leonid Kalashnikov.

“If Kiev introduces the need for preliminary notification for our citizens traveling to Ukraine, then we must immediately do the same for their citizens,” he said.Interfax"On Friday Kalashnikov.

According to him, “biometrics need not be introduced.”

Larger measures in response to the introduction of restrictions on Russian citizens coming to Ukraine are not needed, the head of the committee believes. According to him, you should not follow the lead of those who, step by step, are trying to make it difficult for ordinary citizens to communicate. “And it’s hardly worth helping them (Ukrainian authorities - IF) with this,” Kalashnikov emphasized.

As for the instructions of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko to include Russia in the list of states at risk of migration, as the head of the committee noted, taking into account the general mood of official Kyiv, “this must be taken calmly.”

Recall that since the summer the Ukrainians started visiting countries of the European Union (except Great Britain and Ireland), as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland with a biometric passport. You can go to Europe with an old international passport, but in this case, a visa must be issued.

The visa-free regime only provides for tourist or business travel, limiting their duration to 90 days to 180 days. It does not allow you to work or stay longer than 90 days for six months.
