Since January 1 on the Ukrainian border will earn biometric control

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) on biometric control at the state border, which should be earned from 1 January 2018 of the year.

“President Petro Poroshenko signed Decree No. 256/2017, which put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine dated July 10, 2017” On strengthening control over the entry into Ukraine, exit from Ukraine of foreigners and stateless persons, their compliance with the rules of stay in territory of Ukraine,” the message says.

Biometric control at the border with Ukraine will involve the collection of fingerprints from entering foreigners, the presence of a biometric passport for entry is not mandatory.

According to the decree text, the government should update the list of migration risk states, in particular, include the Russian Federation in it.

“We are not talking about the presence of a biometric passport or its absence. The point is that a foreigner who enters the territory of Ukraine must submit fingerprints. First of all, this is the security of the country, and secondly, this is his security. If, God forbid, some unpleasant surprises happen on the territory of Ukraine. Therefore, we are only talking about the fact that foreigners will submit their biometric data, which we will use in the future, and for this they do not have to have a biometric passport,” said the press secretary of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Oleg Slobodyan on Friday on the TV channel “112. Ukraine"

Recall that since the summer the Ukrainians started visiting countries of the European Union (except Great Britain and Ireland), as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland with a biometric passport. You can go to Europe with an old international passport, but in this case, a visa must be issued.

The visa-free regime only provides for tourist or business travel, limiting their duration to 90 days to 180 days. It does not allow you to work or stay longer than 90 days for six months.
