45-th US President Donald Trump will be the first American leader since 1973, who will not make a mourning speech at the funeral of his predecessor.
It's about the funeral of 41 US President George Bush Sr., who passed away on November 30, writes the publication “Today".
According to the protocol, only guests who are invited to give a speech can speak at the funeral ceremony. The head of the White House was not invited to speak, despite the fact that Trump and his wife Melania took part in the state funeral, along with other presidents and the first ladies.
The ceremony began on 11: 00 EST on December 5 at the Washington Cathedral.
The coffin with the body of Bush Sr. was taken there from the Capitol, where everyone could say goodbye to him.
The son of the deceased, the 43rd President of the United States, George W. Bush, spoke at the ceremony. Talking about his father, he could not hold back his tears.
He said he called his father on November 30 a few hours before his death, and his representative said he could “probably hear me, but he didn’t say a word for most of the day.”
"I said, 'Dad, I love you and you've been a wonderful father.' And the last words he said on Earth were: “I love you too,” Bush Jr. said.
He remembered that after the death of his mother, Barbara Bush, his father held on, but said that he would very much like to hold her hand again.
Bush Jr. noted that after death, his father will be able to do it and hug Robin again, the daughter that the couple lost when she was three years old.
