Biden's son charged with illegally purchasing weapons in the US

US President Hunter Biden's son Hunter Biden has been charged in Delaware with three counts of lying about being addicted to crack cocaine when he bought a gun nearly five years ago. The publication told in more detail New York Post.

The charges carry up to 25 years in prison and could be the first of many criminal cases against Hunter, who is now 53 and could also be prosecuted for tax fraud and illegal foreign lobbying in Washington and Los Angeles.

The indictment accuses Hunter of lying about his drug use on a gun purchase form when he purchased a Colt Cobra revolver in 2018. In his memoir Beautiful Things, published in 2021, he wrote that he was abusing drugs at the time.

The three counts involve violating federal gun laws, lying to government officials and interstate commerce.

In July, Hunter rejected a plea deal that included two years of probation for failing to pay more than $2 million in taxes on foreign income from countries such as China and Ukraine. As part of the deal, Hunter would have pleaded guilty to a weapons offense, but his guilt would have been expunged after completing his probation.

New charges were filed two days after Speaker of the House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy announced impeachment in connection with the participation of US President Joe Biden in his family's overseas business dealings, which centered on Hunter and the president's brother James Biden.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer said the committee would subpoena bank records from Hunter and James Biden, including to find out whether the president received any foreign funds.

White House press secretary Ian Sams declined to comment on the indictment, saying: "That would be up to Hunter's representatives or the Justice Department."
