Calexit supporters began collecting signatures for changing the California Constitution

Supporters of California’s withdrawal from the United States received permission from state authorities to collect signatures for holding a referendum on amending the Constitution of the region.
The collection of signatures could be started from 26 in January. During 180 days, activists need to collect 585 407 signatures of state registered voters so that a referendum is possible, reports The Hill.
If activists receive the necessary support, a referendum on amending the state Constitution will be held in 2018 year.
According to its results, if so decided by the majority of voters, the provisions that “California is an integral part of the United States” and that the US Constitution is “the fundamental law of the state” will be excluded from the fundamental law of the state.
The abolition of these formulations will make it possible for California to secede from the United States; voting on this issue will be held in the 2019 year, but only if the majority of voters support changes to the state constitution.
Last November, activists from the Yes California movement, which favors California’s withdrawal from the United States, submitted a referendum proposal to the state attorney general.
The slogans of California’s withdrawal from the United States sounded long ago, but the activity of Calexit’s supporters increased greatly after Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential election, as he was very unpopular in California, having lost ex-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton more than 4 million votes.
In California, almost 40 millions of people live, it is the most populated state in the USA.
