What new laws will come into force in California in 2017 year

During 2016, many laws were passed in California and a considerable number of changes were introduced into acts already in force. Most of them will take effect on January 1 of 2017.

Edition NBC compiled a list of new rules so that innovations did not take anyone by surprise.

Minimum wage: The state minimum wage will increase from $10 to $10,5 per hour for firms with at least 26 employees. This is another step towards a gradual increase in wages - by 2022, the minimum wage in California will be $15.

Possession of weapons: state lawmakers have tightened gun ownership rules. People who own weapons with stores rated for more than 10 shots will have to surrender these stores starting January 1. Before acquiring a weapon, buyers will have to go through a check of their past, and in addition, since January 1, the sale of weapons will be banned in the state, and you can remove a magazine with a single button (the mechanism is called the bullet button).

Weapon storage: Civilians and law enforcement officers will be required to follow the same rules for safe storage of firearms: in a safe at home or in the trunk, if the weapon is left in a parked car. Do not leave weapons in a visible place. This decision was made after the stolen pistols were used for murder and other serious criminal offenses.

Sexual abuse: сAn ex with a woman in a state of alcoholic or drug intoxication or unconscious will be considered a crime for which it is not a probationary period, but imprisonment. The decision is based on the fact that a woman cannot express her consent or disagreement to have sex if she is unconscious or under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medicines.

Using the phone while driving: лAny applications and chat behind the wheel of January 1 will be severely punished. California drivers are strictly forbidden to touch their phones while they are driving, while voice-controlled devices are allowed.

School teams and mascots: шCalifornia colds will not be allowed to use the word “Redskins” in the names of sports teams, their symbols or talismans. Native Americans find this word offensive.

Baby car seats: Children under 2 years old should only ride in the back seat of a car in special child seats. Exceptions are made for those children whose weight has reached 18 kg and height - 120 cm.

Using EpiPen: companies are allowed to use syringes for EpiPen allergy sufferers for the treatment of life-threatening allergic reactions, to deliver them to schools and other institutions that have a need. In this case, the manufacturer is asked to reduce prices for this product.

Safe construction: The staff will strengthen control over the safety and quality of construction. This involves the collection of information about developers and sellers of buildings. During 2017, the state will have a working group that will decide whether to make changes to building laws and state requirements regarding construction quality.

The right to test: fatally ill patients in California will be allowed to take medicines that have not yet passed clinical trials, but can be a cure for their illness. Doctors can recommend such treatment only in cases where other measures have been exhausted or may not be effective.

Human trafficking: people younger than 18 will not be convicted of prostitution since January 1, but will be classified as victims of trafficking. Children from 13 to 15 will be allowed to testify in cases involving their upbringing and care or any other crimes they have witnessed outside the conference room to protect them from possible intimidation and to keep their identity secret.
